The short version

• What you type in LayFlip stays on your Mac. It is never sent to us.
• The app contacts our server only to register your Mac for your license and to check for updates.
• The website counts visits with PostHog only if you allow cookies. The purchase pages never use analytics.

The app

License registration. When a version of LayFlip starts for the first time with a license key, it sends to layflip.com: the license key, a device ID, the app version and its major version number. The device ID is a one-way hash made on your Mac from its hardware identifier; the identifier itself is never sent. We store the device ID, the app version and the time, to enforce the limit of 2 Macs per key.

Updates. To check for updates the app requests our update feed with the app version. The feed is the same for everyone and does not depend on your key. We keep only counts of versions, not your key or device.

Typing. LayFlip reads keystrokes to recognise words typed in the wrong keyboard layout. This happens on your Mac only. Typed text is not stored and not sent anywhere.

Purchases

Payments are processed by Stripe: Stripe sells LayFlip to you as the reseller through Link, and its own privacy policy covers the payment details you give it. We receive your email address, the order amount and currency, and the language you bought in. We use your email address to send your license key and the link to release your Macs, and to answer your questions. We do not use it for marketing.

Your license key contains a hash of your email address, not the address itself.

Emails

Emails are sent through Resend. They contain your license key and a personal link to release your Macs.

The website

Analytics. If you choose "Allow" in the cookie banner, the site loads PostHog (EU cloud) to count visits and clicks on "Download" and "Buy". PostHog sets cookies to recognise repeat visits. We remove query strings and URL fragments from the data we send and never send your license key or email. If you choose "Decline", PostHog is not loaded at all. You can change your choice with "Cookie settings" at the bottom of the site.

Purchase pages. The pages that show your license key or release your Macs never load analytics.

How long we keep data

Orders and license records: as long as the license exists and as required by tax and accounting law. Device registrations: until you release your Macs or the license ends.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it or to delete it, subject to the records we must keep by law. Write to [email protected].
